What prevention actually consists of
Establishing the picture
Your history, family history, medications, habits and risks. This is a conversation, and it works perfectly well on video.
Deciding what is due
Screening and testing recommendations are individual. A provider works out what applies to you rather than handing you a generic checklist.
Getting it done locally
Laboratory testing, imaging and certain screenings happen at a local site. Presence places the order and tells you where to go — see how labs and imaging work with virtual care.
Acting on the result
Results are reviewed with you and turned into a plan: repeat, treat, refer or reassure, with a date attached.
Keeping track over time
The value of prevention is cumulative, which is why the same provider following the same person matters more than any single visit.
Why we do not publish a screening schedule
Screening recommendations depend on your age, sex, personal and family history, and existing conditions, and they change as national guidance is updated. Publishing a generic table invites people to self-assign the wrong tests. What is due for you is worth ten minutes of a provider's time rather than a guess from a web page.
The parts that must be in person
- Blood draws and urine collection, done at a local collection site.
- Imaging and facility-based screening.
- Any examination component, including anything requiring hands-on assessment.
- Immunisations, which are given at a pharmacy, clinic or in-office visit.
For Presence members in Dallas–Fort Worth, scheduled in-office visits for ages 13 and over are at our North Richland Hills practice — $129 on Virtual Family Care, or two included each membership year then $99 each on Virtual + Local In-Office Care.
Cost, so that prevention does not get deferred
Membership covers your virtual care, so reviewing what is due and discussing results costs nothing extra at the point of use. Laboratory and imaging fees are charged by the lab or facility; Presence quotes the cash price first so you can decide with the number in front of you. See labs and imaging and membership pricing.
Prevention is not a substitute for urgent assessment. New, severe or rapidly changing symptoms need care now, not at your next review.
