Pay per visit or pay monthly?
The arithmetic is simple enough to do yourself. If your household uses more than one virtual visit in a year, $19.99 a month for unlimited household virtual care generally costs less than paying per visit — and it removes the decision of whether a symptom is 'worth' a visit, which is where most people lose money by waiting. If you expect one problem a year for one adult, a single one-time visit may be all you need.
What membership does not include
- Hospital care, emergency departments and ambulance services.
- Specialist visits, surgery and imaging facility charges.
- Laboratory and imaging fees, which the lab or facility bills directly.
- Medications, which you pay for at the pharmacy.
- Anything an insurance plan would cover — membership is not insurance and does not replace it.
How to check any other telehealth service's real price
- Ask for the total charge for a visit, not the 'starting from' figure.
- Ask whether follow-up messages or a repeat visit for the same problem cost extra.
- Ask what happens if the provider decides a prescription is not appropriate — is the visit still charged?
- Ask whether a membership fee is charged on top of per-visit fees.
- Ask whether the service is a membership or an insurance product, and get it in writing.
- Ask who provides the care and in which states they are licensed.
