Why nobody can quote you one local number
Self-pay prices in Dallas–Fort Worth are set practice by practice and change without notice. Anyone who tells you the local price of a visit is guessing. What you can do is understand what a bill is made of, then ask for each part before you agree to be seen.
What a self-pay visit bill is usually made of
- The visit charge — the clinician's time, which varies with visit length and setting.
- Anything performed during the visit — a rapid test, an injection, a procedure, an in-house urinalysis.
- Anything sent out — laboratory panels and imaging, which are billed by the lab or imaging centre, not the practice.
- Facility or after-hours charges, which some settings add and others do not.
- Follow-up, if the plan requires a second visit to close the loop.
This is why two people with the same symptoms can pay very differently for the same visit. The visit fee is often the smallest line on the bill.
The questions that protect you
- What is the total self-pay price for the visit itself?
- If you order labs or imaging, who bills me, and can I have the price before it is ordered?
- Is there a separate facility, after-hours or weekend charge?
- If I need a follow-up, is it included or charged again?
- If my problem turns out to need someone else, do I still pay the full visit?
A practice that cannot answer those five questions before your visit will not answer them after it either.

What none of this covers
Membership at Presence is not insurance. It does not pay for hospital care, surgery, specialist care or an emergency department visit, and it is not a substitute for coverage against a large medical event. Read healthcare without insurance for how people usually combine the two.
