A simple decision order

  1. Is it an emergency?

Chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe breathing difficulty, severe bleeding, major injury, or thoughts of self-harm — call 911. Nothing else on this page applies.

  2. Does the answer depend on someone touching you?

Abdominal pain, a joint injury, an ear that must be examined, a lump — urgent care or an in-person visit.

  3. Does it need a procedure, on-site test or imaging?

Stitches, a splint, an X-ray — urgent care, which exists for exactly this.

  4. Otherwise, start virtually

Most everyday infections, skin problems, allergy symptoms, refills and ongoing condition reviews are handled well virtually, often the same day.

What each setting is genuinely good at

The cost consequence of choosing wrongly

An emergency department visit for a rash is the most expensive possible route to a cream. A virtual visit for a probable fracture wastes a day. Getting the setting right first is the single largest lever most households have over what healthcare costs them — which is the argument for checking before you go. See is telehealth cheaper than urgent care?.

How Presence fits

Presence is virtual-first with a local advantage in Dallas–Fort Worth: household virtual care at $19.99 a month, day or night, and scheduled in-office visits for ages 13 and over at our North Richland Hills practice. We are not an emergency service and never claim to be. See get care now or the fuller telehealth vs urgent care comparison.
