Healthcare benefits for restaurants and hospitality teams

Late closes, early opens, tipped wages and turnover. A healthcare benefit for this industry has to be cheap enough to offer everyone and available at 1am when a line cook finally gets off.

Per-employee monthly cost · Night and weekend access · Voluntary or house-funded

The short answer

Who this is for
Independent restaurants, small groups, bars, coffee shops, catering companies and hotels with hourly and tipped teams.
What staff get
Unlimited 24/7/365 virtual visits including after close, plus member pricing on labs, imaging and medications.
Why it fits hospitality
It works on a closing shift's schedule, costs a predictable amount per employee, and can be offered to part-time staff who will never hit group-plan eligibility.
What it costs
A flat monthly membership per employee. House-funded, voluntary or split.
Next step
Send headcount and we will price it.

Your team's healthcare problem is a shift-timing problem

A server who feels sick on Thursday cannot see anyone until Monday, because every clinic that takes walk-ins is closed by the time service ends and closed again before the next shift starts. The realistic options are urgent care on a rare day off, an emergency room bill nobody can absorb, or working sick — which in a kitchen is also a food-safety conversation.

The other quiet cost is turnover. In an industry where people move between houses for a dollar an hour, a benefit that a competitor down the street does not offer is a reason to stay — but only if staff can actually use it, and only if the operator can afford to offer it to everyone rather than a management-only tier.

Open when your restaurant is

24/7/365 virtual visits by phone or video, including after close and on weekends, when almost nothing else is available.

Offer it to the whole house

Because it is a flat monthly membership rather than an underwritten plan, part-time and tipped staff can be included, not just salaried managers.

Family access on household plans

A dishwasher's kid with an ear infection is the same scheduling crisis. Household plans cover spouse and children on the same membership.

What it costs the house, and what it does not

Pricing is a per-employee monthly number. You can fund the individual level for everyone on the schedule, offer it voluntarily through payroll deduction at no cost to the business, or split it — the house funds the base and staff upgrade to family coverage themselves.

We are not going to claim a labor-cost savings figure. What we can tell you honestly is that a sick employee who can be evaluated at midnight is more likely to be treated correctly and back on the schedule than one who waits three days for a day off.

  1. Pick a funding structure

House-funded, voluntary payroll deduction, or split between the two.

  2. Enroll the schedule

Staff are added by roster, so a new hire in a fast-turnover house is not filling out an enrollment packet.

  3. Tell the team how to use it

One sentence in pre-shift: call any hour, including after close, and a licensed provider will handle it.

  4. Adjust monthly

Headcount moves with the season and the schedule. Billing follows it.

Be straight with your staff about what it is

Presence is a healthcare membership, not health insurance. It handles illness, ongoing conditions, refills and everyday medical questions. It does not cover hospital stays, surgery, emergency care or specialists, and it is not minimum essential coverage.

Worth offering if

  • Most of your team has no health plan today
  • Staff work nights, weekends and split shifts
  • You cannot justify a group plan for a high-turnover hourly team
  • You want a retention talking point that costs a known amount per head
  • Your managers are covering shifts because someone could not see a provider

Not a fit if you need

  • An ACA-compliant group health plan
  • Coverage for hospital, surgical or emergency costs
  • In-person clinics outside the Fort Worth area
  • Occupational injury care — burns and cuts on the line go through your existing process

Questions people ask

Can we offer it to part-time staff?

Yes. There is no minimum-hours eligibility test, which is the main reason hospitality operators use it.

What if someone leaves after two months?

Remove them at the next billing period, or let them keep the membership personally if they want to continue it.

Does this help with food-handler illness policies?

It gives a sick employee same-night access to a licensed provider, which supports your existing policy. It does not replace your health-department obligations or clearance requirements.

About this information

Written by the Presence care team for patients considering care with us. Presence care is delivered by licensed providers, including a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner — not by a physician, and not by software. Meet your provider.

This page explains how our service works. It is general information, not a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for an evaluation of your own situation. Whether testing, treatment or a prescription is appropriate is decided during a visit.

If this is an emergency — chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, or thoughts of harming yourself — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. See our emergency care notice.
