Virtual Care · Same-day
Sick today? Here is what a virtual visit can and cannot sort out
Most everyday illness does not need a waiting room, and some of it genuinely does. This page tells you which is which before you pay for anything — including the symptoms that mean you should be examined in person or seen in an emergency department instead.
QuickCare from $19.99 · Phone $39 · Video $49 · Ages 13+ for Presence one-time care
The short answer
For everyday illness you can usually be seen the same day by phone or video with a licensed provider. Read the red-flag list first: chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding or thoughts of self-harm go to 911, not to a virtual visit. Prescriptions, tests and notes are clinical decisions made in the visit, never promised in advance.
- Who it is for
- Ages 13+ located in Texas or Illinois with an everyday illness that started recently — cough, sore throat, sinus pressure, urinary symptoms, rash, stomach upset.
- When it may not fit
- Emergency symptoms, injuries needing imaging, and anything requiring hands-on examination. Children under 13 are cared for through the household membership.
- What it costs
- $39 by phone, $49 by video, or $149 in person in the Fort Worth area without a membership. Members pay $99 for in-person visits.
- What to do next
- Call now and describe what is going on to scheduling, not to a form.
In an emergency call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
Prices and material terms
- Quick Online Care$19.99Online review of an eligible straightforward concern, without a scheduled live appointment.
- Phone visit$39A conversation with a licensed provider when nothing needs to be seen.
- Virtual Video Visit$49A face-to-face virtual visit for one concern.
- Extended Visit$69For 2–3 concerns or a more involved visit.
- In-person visit, without membership$149One-time in-person visit in the Fort Worth area.
Published prices, payable by card, HSA or FSA. Presence-led visits are for ages 13 and older, with the patient located in Texas or Illinois for provider-led services. Membership is not insurance and does not cover hospital, surgical, specialist or emergency care.
The short answer
- Stop here if any of these apply
- Chest pain or pressure, trouble breathing at rest, fainting, one-sided weakness, slurred speech, a stiff neck with fever, severe or sudden abdominal pain, confusion, a seizure, uncontrolled bleeding, or thoughts of harming yourself. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department — do not book a virtual visit.
- The short answer
- Many common illnesses may be appropriate for virtual evaluation. A licensed provider takes your history, looks at what can be seen on video, and either treats what they can, orders testing, or tells you plainly that you need to be examined.
- What it costs
- QuickCare from $19.99, a phone visit $39, a video visit $49. Members with unlimited plans have no per-visit fee for included virtual care.
- Who it is for
- Presence one-time virtual care is for ages 13 and older. Children under 13 are seen through Whole Family Virtual Care, where network clinicians see all ages.
- What it never includes
- A guaranteed prescription, a guaranteed antibiotic, a guaranteed note, or an emergency service. A visit buys a clinical assessment and an honest answer.
This page sits under virtual care — start there if you want the full picture first.
Which visit fits how you feel today?
- Get care now
Familiar illness, nothing to look at — sore throat, cold, sinus pressure, cough
A phone visit is usually enough at $39, or QuickCare from $19.99 if it is very straightforward.
- Book a video visit — $49
There is something a provider should see — a rash, an eye, swelling, a wound
Choose the video visit at $49. Being able to see it changes what can be decided in one visit.
- See Whole Family Virtual Care
It is your child, and they are under 13
Whole Family Virtual Care covers everyone in the household for $19.99/month, 24/7/365, in all 50 states.
- Emergency guidance
You are frightened, or symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly
Do not wait for any appointment. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
If you are unsure which to pick, choose video. A provider can always step down to a conversation, but cannot look at something after the fact.
Symptoms that need to be seen, not screened
This list is deliberately first. A virtual visit is a reasonable place to start for a great deal of everyday illness, and it is the wrong place to start for anything on this list.
Often reasonable to start virtually
- Cold, cough, sore throat and sinus symptoms
- Suspected seasonal respiratory illness without breathing difficulty
- Rashes, insect bites and skin irritation that can be shown on camera
- Pink eye and mild eye irritation without vision change
- Urinary symptoms in an otherwise healthy adult
- Mild stomach upset, nausea or diarrhoea without severe pain
- Medication questions, refill review and follow-up on a known problem
Needs in-person or emergency assessment
- Chest pain or pressure, or breathlessness at rest
- One-sided weakness, facial droop, slurred speech or sudden severe headache
- Fever with a stiff neck, confusion or a rash that does not fade under pressure
- Severe, sudden or localised abdominal pain
- Fainting, a seizure, or an injury with possible fracture
- Dehydration, persistent vomiting or an inability to keep fluids down
- Pregnancy with abdominal pain or bleeding
- Any symptom that frightens you or is worsening quickly
This is general guidance, not a diagnosis. If something feels wrong to you, be assessed in person.
"Can someone just look at this rash?"
Often, yes — skin is one of the areas where video genuinely earns its place, because a provider can see distribution, colour, texture and how it has changed. What a video look can settle depends heavily on the photograph and the story around it.
What helps a provider decide
Good light, one wide photo showing where it is on the body and one close photo in focus, when it started, whether it itches or hurts, whether it is spreading, and anything new you have taken, eaten or touched.
What video often handles well
Contact and irritant reactions, insect bites, shingles-pattern rashes, common fungal rashes, eczema flares and hives may be appropriate for virtual evaluation.
What needs hands and instruments
Anything requiring palpation, a skin biopsy, a scraping, drainage of an abscess, or dermoscopy of a changing mole. A suspicious mole is a referral, not a video call.
Get seen urgently instead if
The rash is spreading fast, blistering, involves the eyes, mouth or genitals, comes with fever and feeling very unwell, or does not fade when pressed. That is an in-person assessment.
No provider can promise a diagnosis from a photograph. If the answer needs a test or an examination, you will be told rather than guessed at.
Urinary symptoms: when virtual is reasonable, and when it is not
Burning, urgency and frequency in an otherwise healthy adult is one of the most common reasons people look for care online, and a virtual evaluation is frequently a reasonable starting point. Treatment is never automatic — a provider decides whether testing comes first, and antibiotics are not guaranteed.
Usually reasonable to start virtually
A first or occasional episode of typical lower urinary symptoms in a non-pregnant adult who is otherwise well and has no fever or back pain.
Testing is often ordered first
A urine culture may be requested before or alongside treatment, particularly if symptoms have recurred, so that the treatment actually matches what is there.
Needs in-person assessment
Fever, chills, flank or back pain, vomiting, pregnancy, symptoms in men with prostate history, catheters, kidney stones, diabetes with poor control, or repeated episodes in a short period.
Recurrent cases need a plan, not a repeat prescription
Three or more episodes a year deserves a proper work-up — culture history, sometimes imaging, sometimes urology. Ongoing membership care is a better fit than a series of one-off visits.
Blood in the urine, severe pain, or symptoms that worsen after starting treatment need prompt in-person review.
Respiratory, throat and stomach illness: what actually happens in the visit
Your history does most of the work
How it started, how it has changed, fever, exposure to illness at home or work, what you have tried, and what other conditions or medications you have. This is the majority of the assessment for common illness.
The provider looks at what can be seen
On video: throat, eyes, skin, breathing effort and how unwell you look. What cannot be done remotely is listening to your chest or examining your ears, and if that is what the decision hinges on, you will be told.
Testing where it changes the answer
Strep testing, respiratory testing, urine culture or blood work can be ordered locally at member pricing when the result would actually change what happens next.
A plan you can act on today
Symptom management guidance, a prescription where clinically appropriate, documentation where the findings support it, what to watch for, and exactly when to escalate.
Antibiotics are prescribed when they are indicated and withheld when they are not. That is not a policy about telehealth — it is what safe prescribing looks like anywhere.
If this keeps happening, a membership is the cheaper answer
Two or three one-off visits in a year usually cost more than a membership does. Households get more out of it again, because everyone is covered.

Questions people ask
Can I be seen today?
Same-day virtual visits are the normal case, and unlimited members have 24/7 access. We do not promise a specific appointment time, because that would be a promise about staffing rather than about care.
Will I get antibiotics?
Only if a provider decides they are clinically indicated. Nobody can guarantee an antibiotic before an evaluation, and a practice that does is not one you should trust with your health.
What if the provider says I need to be seen in person?
You will be told what to do and where to go, and it will be said early rather than at the end. Being redirected is a normal, correct outcome of a virtual visit.
My child is sick — can you see them?
Presence one-time virtual care is for ages 13 and older. For a child under 13, Whole Family Virtual Care covers everyone in the household at $19.99/month, and its network clinicians see all ages and decide case by case what is appropriate virtually.
Can you write me a work or school note?
Documentation follows the clinical finding. If the evaluation supports it, a note can usually be provided; it is never guaranteed in advance.
What does it cost without insurance?
QuickCare from $19.99, phone $39, video $49, all published and payable without insurance. Insurance options are available; coverage and in-network status vary by plan and must be verified before the visit.
Is this an emergency service?
No. Presence does not provide emergency care. For anything severe or frightening, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
About this information
Written by the Presence care team for patients considering care with us. Presence care is delivered by licensed providers, including a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner — not by a physician, and not by software. Meet your provider.
This page explains how our service works. It is general information, not a diagnosis, and it is not a substitute for an evaluation of your own situation. Whether testing, treatment or a prescription is appropriate is decided during a visit.
If this is an emergency — chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, or thoughts of harming yourself — call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. See our emergency care notice.
